This mysterious video was posted on YouTube today under the account MortalKombatRebirth.

Update: Here’s a still of Sub-Zero at the 7:11 mark.

Update 2: This is what’s known so far…

– The short was directed by Kevin Tancharoen, whom did the remake of Fame last year.
– Jackson Briggs is played by Michael Jai White of Spawn, Undisputed II and Black Dynamite fame.
– Sonya Blade is played by Jeri Ryan, whom played Seven of Nine in Star Trek: Voyager.
– Baraka is played by Lateef Crowder, whom plays the Brazilian fighter in Undisputed III.
– Scorpion is played by Ian Anthony Dale. Ian plays Kazuya in the upcoming movie adaption of Tekken.
– Johnny Cage is played by martial artist Matt Mullins, a 5-time martial arts world champion.
– The fight choreography was done by Larnell Stovall. Larnell did the fight choreography for Undisputed III.
– The quick flash of Sub-Zero is actually a 3D model (which can be seen here) created by Furio Tedeschi. Furio worked at Blitz Games on a WB Games title called Taz: Wanted in 2002.
– Ed Glaser of Darkmaze Studios had this to say on his Facebook: “Okay, here’s the deal. That Mortal Kombat video is a proof of concept — basically a movie pitch — from the mind of Larnell Stovall. Stovall is a fight choreographer and was part of the stunt team for “Black Dynamite”, which probably explains the Michael Jai White connection. Bam.”

The actors who play Reptile and Shang Tsung are still unknown at this time.

Update 3: An interview with Kevin Tancharoen later confirmed Ed Glaser’s statement. Another interview with Matt Mullins can be found here.

In light of the new Friday the 13th movie that is now playing in theaters today, I’ve constructed a list of how Jason “dies” in each of his films.

Friday the 13th – Jason’s mother goes on a killing spree at Camp Crystal Lake believing that her son had drowned due to the camp’s careless lifeguards. As it turns out, Jason is alive and witnesses his mother’s beheading, courtesy of Alice. Jason lives, but so begins his reign of terror.

Friday the 13th Part II – Jason, now a grown man somehow, gets his revenge on Alice, but takes a machete to the shoulder by Ginny. Non-fatal.

Friday the 13th Part 3: 3-D – Axe to the head by Chris. Many argue that this is when human Jason is actually killed before becoming supernatural Jason.

Friday the 13th Part IV: The Final Chapter – Hacked and slashed to death by Tommy with his own machete; impaled through the head by machete. I personally think this is when human Jason really dies.

Friday the 13th: A New Beginning – Falls from the mow of a barn and is impaled by farm equipment outside. Not the real Jason, but an impostor Jason.

Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives – Chained underwater and drowned in Crystal Lake by Tommy.

Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood – Tina uses her telekinetic powers to once again imprison Jason at the bottom of Crystal Lake.

Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan – Gets submerged in chemicals during a sewer’s cleansing cycle, reverting him back to a normal boy (wtf…?). One of the most confusing endings in the series.

Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday – Sent to Hell by his niece, Jessica, using a “magical” dagger.

Jason X – Launched from a spaceship into outer space and presumably killed from re-entering an earth-like planet’s atmosphere.

Freddy vs. Jason – It is speculated by some that Jason wins, but is trapped in Freddy’s dream world after their battle. Regardless, other than getting some fingers chopped off and stabbed quite a bit, Jason lives again.

Friday the 13th (2009) – Go see the movie.

Supernatural

My brother James recently got me hooked on this show called Supernatural. The show follows brothers Sam and Dean Winchester, who travel across the country in a black 1967 Chevy Impala, investigating and combating paranormal events and other unexplained occurrences, many of them based on urban legends and folklore, as well as classic supernatural creatures such as vampires, werewolves, and ghosts. When Sam Winchester was an infant and his brother Dean was only four years old, their mother, Mary, was murdered on November 2, 1983 (hey, my birthday!) by a mysterious entity late one night in their home. Searching for answers, their father became obsessed with the supernatural as well as finding and destroying the thing that killed his wife. In the process, he trained his sons to recognize and defend themselves against paranormal entities.

At a young age, both Sam and Dean became resourceful sleuths and experienced fighters assisting their father in his quest to destroy dangerous creatures and find the demon that had killed their mother. However, Sam rebelled against the lifestyle his father chose for him, eventually having a falling out with his father and leaving to live a “normal” life. He attended Stanford University on a full scholarship and lived with his girlfriend, Jessica Moore, in an apartment near campus. Dean, after two years of estrangement, appears one night on Sam’s doorstep during the autumn of his senior year, bearing the news that their father has gone missing while on a “hunting trip”. Sam reluctantly agrees to help Dean in the search.

To anyone remotely interested in this sort of thing, I highly recommend checking it out. Especially if you have brothers of your own. I get a kick out of the chemistry between the two, as they tend to argue, play pranks on one another, and ultimately go to extremes for each other, as most brothers would do. Not only do their travels keep things interesting, but I also love the show’s choice in music, as it’s a direct reflection of Dean’s love for classic rock. The car is just as much a star of the show as Dean and Sam, and if you’re cruising in a ride like this, classic rock is the only way to go.

I had originally wrote something short of a novel about this movie, but I suck at explaining things. I thought it was badass. If you haven’t seen it yet, dooo eeet.
